Bird Services

Our avian friends are very unique, and as bird owners know, require special skills for handling, treatment, and care. We enjoy working with birds and their owners and strive to provide the best care for all bird species.

What kind of birds do you service?

Dr. Cook has expertise with most species of birds. We commonly see budgies and other parakeets, cockatiels, parrots and macaws, and other exotic bird species. We do not carry a wildlife license, and therefore any concerns with wild bird health should be directed to the Atlantic Wildlife Institute at 506-364-1902 or the Department of Natural Resources at 506-856-2344.

What type of grooming do birds require?

All species of birds should have an annual wellness exam to monitor for parasites, behavioural and health conditions, and to discuss husbandry (diet and housing). Some birds will need their wings clipped to prevent escape, others need nail and beak trims to prevent overgrowth and trauma.

What type of services do you provide for birds?

We provide birds with full and complete health care. Examples include beak trims, wing clipping, fecal exams, egg bound prevention, parasite treatment, blood testing and many other diagnostic testing and treatment options based on your bird’s needs.
